Remember Chris Watts? The notorious fellow who got tired of his pregnant wife appliance Shanann, and their two children and stuffed them in an oil tank? That charmer? Well, he’s found Twu Wuv with a realtor from Ohio.

From federal prison no less. Well, clearly you lack a compelling back story.

She turned me into the police. Oh! You don’t mean my mistress? You mean my wife? Um… at the bottom of a steel drum.

Um… same drum. But I’m a changed man! Family annihilation was just a youthful indiscretion. I’ve been to therapy!
Yet still there is a woman out there who will marry Chris Watts.

Watts, who is serving multiple life sentences for murdering his pregnant wife and their two young daughters, has reportedly applied to marry Lizzie Henderson, an Ohio realtor he met while incarcerated.
Henderson’s relatives told the Daily Mail the couple submitted an application to marry each other while Chris is incarcerated. She has also reportedly begun calling herself “Lizzie Watts” and filed a confidential petition to legally change her name.
This is completely deranged. But consider this the next time you wonder how your FW could move on so quickly despite their misdeeds. I’m not saying your FW is as heinous as Chris Watts, but this shows the power of exceptionalism thinking. He un-alived his family, but I’m different! She’s a serial cheater, but not for me! He has a paid girlfriend habit but I’m the special someone who can get him to commit!
How desperate do you have to be to marry Chris Watts?
Henderson reportedly relocated from Ohio to Wisconsin to be closer to Watts who is housed at Dodge Correctional Institution. She has since become a frequent visitor at the maximum security prison.

Henderson confirmed the relationship to the Daily Mail, acknowledging others may find it “weird” but declining to reveal how they met. She said their story is between herself, Watts and God.
And the security guards on those conjugal visits.
Anyway, I can’t even. I just bring this injustice to your attention: This colossally evil FW gets to move on. (Whatever that means to someone serving multiple life sentences.) But Shanann, Bella, and Celeste Watts never will.

Don’t tell me he will be allowed to spread his seed? Only in America, where all sense of human decency has been abandoned…….the laws need to be changed there should be no conjugal visits, they are in prison……
That would be cruel. Prisoners are still human, and should be allowed to have human relationships. And that’s ignoring all the cases of wrongful incarceration. I understand the instinct, feeling like someone who killed their spouse shouldn’t be given that chance again to have that connection, but Chris Watts isn’t the only member of the Industrial Prison Complex.
That’s being said, Chris Watts is a particularly vile human, as are all family annihilatiors. It doesn’t surprise me he “found love,” though (or what passes for love for someone as disgusting as him). Didn’t most serial killers infamously get a lot of love letters in prison? There’s always people who think they can fix others, and then there’s people who take that instinct to the extreme, I guess.
In bleaker moments, ISTM that perhaps romance (a word to use which is different to love, which I suppose I reserve for self-giving stuations like my friends’ caring for disabled children) can all be explained away as a kind of twisted vanity. All that ‘you make me complete’, ‘I’m more myself when I’m with you’ stuff. Through that lens, convincing oneself that one is special enough to ‘partner’ with someone like the (famous) subject of this story, does not seem such a big outlier. I hope I’m wrong, but, you know.
She’s got hybristophilia, a sexual paraphilia. Correctional officers refer to such women as “prison groupies.” It’s a good thing Chris Watts isn’t getting out of prison, because she sounds like she’d be in his mind a perfect next victim.
Yeah, that’s the word I was trying to remember.
Not only do monsters walk amongst us, but people who have a “thing” about these monsters – even when they know (or perhaps because they know) what the monsters have done – do too.

For anyone wondering, this is called “hibristophilia.” A psychological condition (re: a paraphilia) in which someone is sexually attracted to criminals. Sometimes it’s called “Bonnie and Clyde Syndrome.”
Katherine Ramslad (professor of forensic psychology at DeSales University) studied why people do this. Some reasons given by people who had relationships with criminals (particularly serial k*llers) were they’re “the perfect boyfriend.” Meaning they knew where he was at all times, never had to do anything for him like cooking or cleaning, he’d be thinking about her, and other women couldn’t get to him. Other reasons were thinking they could change him. Hibristophiliacs often had hero complexes believing they could “fix” someone like Ted Bundy.
Others held an extreme form of fanaticism, and as long as the criminal was in prison, they could hold on to their fantasy of the relationship without a real world (outside of prison) relationship with all the responsibilities being made manifest. Others still enjoyed risk-taking behaviors, ignoring the threat to their own safety and believing if the criminal loves them, he’d protect them from other threats. Others were horrific criminals themselves (Rosemary West…)
The cause of someone becoming a hibristophiliac is still fairly debated in the psychology community. But it’s pretty much agreed across the board that it is a delusional condition.
I don’t know what brand of hibristophilia this woman from Ohio is, but I know Chris Watts is an unyielding piece of sh*t. He’s an absolute monster wearing human skin and has been obstinately unrepentant since he looked the first cop in the eyes and lied. He’s still lying and manipulating and bullsh*tying anyone who will listen. Prison hasn’t changed him, neither will she.
If I were her family I would be pushing back against this and trying to get her some help. I’m not sure the process that goes into applying to marry someone in prison serving a life sentence, but if there’s any kind of way to object I sure as h*ll would be.

Is it bad that my first thought is about how she’s utterly destroying her career?
She was a realtor in Ohio, a career where image and public reputation are everything. She moved to Wisconsin to be closer to him, where she’d need to start building that image and repetition from square one. And to top it off, she intends to take his last name and has already started calling herself that? Yeah, I think that might not be the best choice when you’re trying to convince your costumers to pick you to represent them.
I really doubt God was the main force bringing these two together.
She may be one of those freaky fetishists who are into convicts. I’m guessing she got in his DMs on social media, which is why he refuses to say how they met. It sounds sleazy and gross because it is. In the old days those freaks wrote letters to convicts. With SM it’s easier to find the scum of the earth to marry. Progress? I don’t think so.
Since Watts will never be released, I guess Lizzie Henderson-Watts (or whatever she chooses to call herself) chose the perfect guy to be her husband. At least she won’t ever have to worry about him shoving her into an oil tank to percolate.

I realize that it’s pure delusion with a side of “I will save his sorry soul.” So she completely blows up her life for an evil man. That won’t go well.
Of course, I get the unreasonable hope for the future. I lived that, but thankfully I live in reality now. My ex was a deeply disturbed individual with a long-term chemical addiction problem. Even when he was supposedly sober during our final separation, he was a hot mess in terms of delusional and disordered thinking. During the divorce, he told his attorney about thoughts of unaliving himself and taking me down in the process. We got it done though, and the other side is peaceful and full of joy. Radio silence from my ex for several years now. The kids are grown and are lovely young adults acing life.
But to my knowledge, my ex continues to hide just how very bad the past with me was, blames the crooked attorneys and me for everything divorce-related, and is supposedly in a long-term relationship. I wonder how much she really knows and why she’s in that, but not my committee, thankfully. She may have a bit of delusion there too.
